Grant was a pillar of the Pantera community and a member of POCA. Though expected for some time, it is a terrible loss.

Rest in Peace.

Subject: [DeTomaso] Another sad passing...Grant Stockwell

Hi guys,

This morning I received word of yet another sad passing in the Pantera
community. South Bay Panteras member Grant Stockwell succomed to oral cancer,
after a fight of some 4-5 years. Grant and his longtime girlfriend Susan
were regular attendees at the POCA Fun Rally, the Monterey Historics weekend,
and most So-Cal Pantera events. He thought nothing of jumping in his
bright red L-model and driving it anywhere--it was always on-the-button, and he
really loved it.

Grant had been a source of great support to me and my girlfriend Julie, who
herself died of oral cancer in January. Grant had been dealing with the
disease for a couple of years (successfully) when Julie was first diagnosed,
and he provided great comfort and optimism to her as she was coming to terms
with her illness.

Grant's condition started really going downhill earlier this year. A week
ago, I flew to LA and went with Bill Taylor to pay him a visit. He had
been feeling pretty badly in the weeks leading up to our visit, but for some
reason, he rebounded that day. He got out of bed and got dressed for the
first time in awhile, came downstairs and hung out with us for an hour or
more. Although he was thinner than normal (he was a super-athlete who would
ride his bicycle 100 miles a day even in his early 70s), he looked far better
than I was expecting, and his spirits were high (well, as high as can be
expected under the circumstances).

I planned to come back down and visit again this coming week, but shortly
after I left, his condition worsened, and within a few days, he was on heavy
morphine. He had announced with conviction that he was ready to die, and
had fully come to terms with his situation. So I am glad that at least his
suffering was shortened.

I'll miss his ever-present smile and quiet demeanor. He was such a good
guy....

There will be no funeral; the family will hold a celebration of life at a
time/place TBA....

Mike
