There are several MSD coils for the 6AL:

It may be a good idea to get recommendations.

I checked with the local Auto Zone and MSD coils seem to be less than fifty bucks, so I think I'll just buy one and see if that makes a difference. I hope I don't accidentally buy the wrong kind of coil.
If I replace the coil and it doesn't solve the problem, then I will definitely try the MSD box test you mentioned. If the test is really easy, I might actually try that first.
Thanks for the input--I hope I don't run into the same repeating problem with MSD that you did!
