 It seems to me the pilot banked too far from horizontal and the wings lost their lift properties.

You can do this if started with enough altitude to give time to recover, but as low as he was, the plane was doomed.

Same problem the hot-shot pilot found himself in as seen in this more famous accident video.
The pilot in this case was known for his antics and his unprofessional behavior finally caught up to him,
and sadly,  his crew too.
