[DeTomaso] optical sensor ignitions, MSD boxes

Dear Jim,

IIRC, the MSD tach adapter is a lot less expensive than the MSD 6 AL
box.

I'm trying to decide if I should buy an MSD or just a tach adapter.
Some tach adapters cost almost as much as the black MSD box, so it might
make sense. But if my tach won't work with the MSD box and I have to spring
for the tach adapter in addition I'll be a bit ticked.

Jim,
If you're talking about the fat power (red) wire on an MSD-6AL, yes it goes
irectly to the battery which can also be the battery side of the starter
olenoid if it's closer. The thin red wire goes to the ignition switch.
he fat ground (black) wire needs to go to a good frame ground. But even
ith the MSD box, it's TACH output may require one of their two tach
onverter boxes for you tach to work correctly depending which type of tach
ou have.
But didn't you get directions with your MSD? They should say the same
hing.

i, all,
This question does not involve my Pantera because I had it changed to a
on-optical sensor in the distributor, but my Dino has a Crane / Allison
ptical sensor and the tach has never worked entirely right with it.
Needle floats / jumps a bit and drops to zero at redline)
A fellow Dino owner uses an optical sensor and an MSD box and says his tach
orks fine.
So one option would be to install an MSD box, or so it would seem
What do you guys hook up the positive and negative "power" leads to, the
nes MSD says should go directly to the battery terminals?

hanks,
Jim Oddie
