With any steel-shim intake (or head) gasket and alloy heads, the embossed
areas of harder steel gaskets will dent softer aluminum, making subsequent
resealing very difficult. The heads often need surfacing to fix this. And with
air-gap intakes such as the Victor or others, the function of the
turkey-tray splash-shield (keeping oil char from forming on the bottom of the intake)
is completely unnecessary. Also, if your intake does not use the
exhaust-heat passage in the intake, you don't need its heat shielding. Finally, just
getting the turkey tray gasket is more difficult due to its size and the fact
that they are not included in gasket sets. So you pay extra for something
not always necessary. FWIW- J DeRyke
