>From the NW perspective, I'd have to say San Diego would not really be any
further to drive than 'Vegas. A long trip, yes, but after living in LA for
14 years and taking many trips down there, not to mention that my wife grew
up in El Cajon, just east, it's really an enjoyable place. There would be a
much longer weather-window to work in, and the Hotel Del would be a great
setting for a Pantera pic.

It's certainly worth looking into.

I would love to work to help plan an event in the San Diego area. I have
the time now and enthusiasm.
My bet would be that many more people would attend in San Diego WITH their
cars. Those who fly would have great access to flights. There are countless
hotels that are geared toward conventions and are reasonably priced. The
area is gorgeous... I've attended several events where cars were displayed
on grass in Seaport Village right by the water; they were spectacular.
So much to see and do there as well. Don't underestimate the SD folks
insofar as willingness to plan and run the event. I've seen that they have
classy tastes while are conservative on costs. Please don't out-rule the
idea
before exploring the possibilities. While Reno was lovely too and fun..
there were not many cars there, and isn't that the point?

Even if such a location is identified, we would then need local club members
willing to help plan and execute the event--another not-insignificant
challenge.
