[DeTomaso] Convention ideas

Mark,
My take is that the first year in Reno we gained attendance from a number of NW
and Northern California people who came for the first time but they will not be
regulars. They have now "been there done that" and I don't think you will get
many as repeat attendees.
If you all remember the fun rally started as a social event and track was not a
part of it. Sure you will lose some attendance without the track event but I
feel that this is a small percentage of participants and as you saw this year
most of the people came even without the track event. It is just my opinion but
if you want to really see what the track event draws try holding just a track
event and see how many show up. My guess is less than a dozen.

The short answer is that no site has been selected for 2011.

The plan is that we will collect info about the various sites, publish the info
so that people can make an informed decision, then put out a survey to collect
opinions.  Naturally, there is the plan and then there is the reality.  The
reality is that I am way, way behind.  (Yeah, that sounds like a broken record.)

Anyway, there are upsides and downsides to the various cities and venues.  As
was just pointed out, San Diego is a very nice city and is well located for the
mass of west-coast Pantera owners.  The downside is that there is no track and
that the hotel and convention costs are likely to be substantially higher.

To clear up the attendance issue -- when we moved from LV to Reno, attendance
actually went up.  This year it went down a bit to everyone's surprise given the
enthusiasm in 2009.  There are a number of possible reasons for the drop off
such as the economy and the lack of a track event.

There you have it. I compliment myself on making the effort to attend;
what's this "late" BS?  If the event were closer I would have had my  beautiful
Pantera with me. Let's really be serious. Why not take  a true unbiased
survey and judge how many would attend with or without their  cars if the event
were to be in SD.  The actual  statistics should be considered.

stage a formal track event, quite a few Fun Rally attendees  drove out to the
track (30 minutes) and had their own private track day on  Friday!  You
could have gone too, but you were in  LA...:>)
