The fitting is flimsy sheet metal, usually badly rusted and is only pressed 
into an unthreaded hole. The simplest way is to crush it in a big 
Vise-grips pliers, then pry on the pliers with a bar through the access cover hole. 
On most blocks, you won't even need to remove other parts to access it. 
New replacementss are available, or Marlin Jack can machine you a 
thick-wall stainless replacement that also drives into the tapered hole and last for 
several lifetimes..... No threading needed either way. Cheers- J DeRyke
