In 8th grade shop (in the 70s) I was practicing my cutting torch skills on a
piece of scrap pipe in the classroom. Cutting torches are cool, especially
to a 13 year old. The shop teacher walks over casually tells me he has
three tips for me.

1) heat the pipe a bit longer before I blasted it.
2) Don't pump the blaster because the cut is not as clean
3) See that yellow smoke? Don't inhale it because it can kill you.

I never cut galvanized again.
