Doug, I wouldn't recommend trying to weld BRAKE line, which as you were
told, is really Bundyweld tubing made of a sheet of steel rolled into a
cylinder and furnace-brazed. This stuff was the first steel lines used for
hydraulic brakes back in the 1930s and is still used in the 21st century. Welding
(or likely even brazing) will overheat the braze line and cause it to
debond, then leak. But steel FUEL line is not made that way and can be welded or
brazed safely. And 5/16" fuel line will be much easier to find anyway since
brake lines are typically smaller in diameter to minimize the amount of
fluid.

The rin/zincprotective plating on either will burn away at the first touch
of a torch; do not breathe the fumes or you'll get a mild case of
heavy-metal poisoning known as "zinc shakes" that is temporary but highly unpleasant!
Galvanized steel also behaves this way: weld it outdoors with a mask. Good
luck- J DeRyke
