[DeTomaso] Muffler Opinions

Bill

That is funny and helpful. It is humorous because many of the pics were
taken in my driveway. It is also helpful because it shows the perforated
pipes welded to a central ring and reinforced with the unpatented Taphorn
GTS turbo splitter. :^)

Sometimes what you need is right under your nose.

The bad news is that those welds to the central ring needed to be
compromised while the mufflers were cut open. I can't see how to break them
loose otherwise. It also appears that simply cutting off the tips and
replacing with larger would not be an ideal solution unless you reopened the
muffler to get the perforated pipe extracted. Otherwise, it will always be
present as an obstacle. Oh, if I had only known about the resonator
constriction issue before the previous GTS muffler surgeries.

All said and done, if you are willing to gut the muffler, it seems that one
could remove the perforated pipe in the resonator to achieve the required
diameter without requiring an investment in new mufflers.
