[DeTomaso] Aldan Shock Rebuild - An Update

Mike,

IMO, if the bolts can not be tightened around the inner shaft the design is
wrong. This goes for both A-arm busings and shock bushings.

OK, I think I may have been slightly off there. Now that I think about it,
I was told for the poly bushings on our suspension, that the bolts should be
tight enough that the shaft is tight to the flanges, and bushing rotates on
the shaft. I think that is what Ferel told me to look for on the shocks as
well. That would still work with the marking process as the bushing and
shock would pivot as one on the shaft.

I'll confirm with Aldan when I talk to them tomorrow.

Mike

Mike,

I other words, the Aldan top and bottom shock mounts should be able to pivot
on the mounting bolts.

Did I get that right?

It makes sense that clamping the shock mounts tight in the mounting brackets
will transfer a lot sideways load into the shaft/seals. It also can explain
why some have had terrible luck with Aldans and others have had no problems.

This is the opposite of our OEM suspension bushings. These should be clamped
tight when the suspension is at ride height and should not rotate on the
mounting bolts.

Have fun now,
