[DeTomaso] 4" Elephant Ears - was; I've got to get going on my restoration

The comparison to wind blowing in an open window is not a valid comparison
because the cockpit is closed ( no air coming in from the floor) The engine
compartment has various openings and has been said to act like a vacuum
cleaner running down the road. besides the complexities of calculating the
air flow dynamics between the wheel well openings, the opening of the bottom
of the engine compartment the open rear window etc. I don't think you can
make a valid comparison because air comes in an open window. In tests I have
seen air comes out the back engine compartment window (indicating positive
pressure) so open vent windows might serve as an outlet for air and not an
inlet ( hence the elephant ears blowing out at speed) I have been
experimenting with cold air induction and the only way to really know what
direction what pressure and what temperature air is flowing in and around
the engine compartment is with an anemometer that measures air flow in CFM
air pressure and air temperature. Once you have determined the available air
flow and temperature you can plan your air intake for your engine.
