[DeTomaso] Bent (stock) pushrod

Dear Dan,

Sorry to hear of this latest engine problem. Such repeated problems
for me resulted in the realization that I couldn't do much worse than the
pros. I began building my own engines. The engines have gotten better and
I have gotten smarter.

From what I have read, the recommendation for stronger push rods is
correct. I agree with you that I would expect a pro to have that potential
problem in mind with the original engine build and compensate for it with
the stronger push rods. Not to be negative, but it does then raise the
unsettling question of what else might be less than correct.....sigh.

Is this an engine builder that you have a rapport with or is this the
first time you've hired him? Have you considered using Antenucci's
builder, Ron Fulps. Mr. Fulps seems to know Clevelands.

                Warmest regards, Chuck Engles

Subject: [DeTomaso] Bent (stock) pushrod

The good news is The Winged Warrior is back on the road (more on this
later),
The bad news is a pushrod bent at 1,500 miles on the new(est) engine.
This caused the #7 intake lifter to pop out, creating a bad miss,  high
idle, low oil pressure and heavy oil smoke out of the left tailpipe, causing
me to wonder if I'd lost yet another brand new motor.
The engine builder is telling me these stock pushrods can't hold up to the
new double valvespings in the new set of beefed up ($2k) 2bbl domestic
heads.
His solution is to upgrade to some heavier Crower pushrods.
If that's the case I wonder why the stock pushrods weren't recommended for
replacement?
I'm getting tired of paying for the same work, over and over.

Dan
