I was pretty sure that mine with a gasket seat just reaches the bottom
thread.  Mine will take either taper or gasket.

I'll take a closer look when I start working on the engine.

I checked the depth of my SVO A-3's threaded sparkplug hole- which has a 
tapered seat and does not use a gasket- and got 0.625". Then during a
tune-up 
I noticed that my wife's aluminum-head Chevy Z-28 engine used such plugs. 
Screwing them into the A-3s on a bench, it appeared they just reached the 
bottom thread, which is proper to prevent carbon build-up. Note these heads
are 
date-stamped in the rocker arm chamber: one says '83, the other '84. Later 
ones might be different, I guess. FWIW- J DeRyke
