[DeTomaso] POCA and the ProvaMo Registry

Actually, the current POCA website has three access levels to help get
as much useful information to POCA members and the public as possible
while helping to protect sensitive information. Of course, we also want
to reward people who put some skin in the game by giving them some
special access to POCA-only content.

The levels are:

Public - articles are visible to everyone including Google. No
registration or login is required. Most articles are at this level for
the good of the community.

Registered - articles are visible only to people who have registered and
are logged in. Anyone can register and there is no cost to do so. The
articles are not visible to Google. The search engine on the website
can search all information but is smart enough to only return results
that you have the right to see. Articles at this level are public but
sensitive. The recent government-funded Pantera aero test articles and
the late-model registry info are at this level.

POCA Members - articles are visible only to people who have registered
and are logged in and are current POCA members. The membership roster
and the Newsletter and Profile PDF are only available to POCA members.

We also have a privacy policy statement which details the information
that we collect and make available about our members. Details at
http://poca.com/index.php/pp

I believe that if the registry were to be hosted on the POCA website,
that the content would be at the Registered level which would make it
available to non-POCA members but still protect sensitive information
about the cars and their owners.

By the way, the $75 POCA membership fee includes a $20 fee which is
rebated to your local chapter for your activities. The remaining $55
covers the club's actual expenses which are primarily the printing and
mailing. All the efforts at running the club, the Fun Rally, the
publications, and the website are done entirely on a volunteer basis.

Of course, I would be remiss if I did not point out how easy it is to
become a POCA member. You can sign up on-line at
http://poca.com/index.php/cl/join

If you are a current member, you can check your status and renewal date
at http://www.poca.com/index.php/cl/dir/myinfo

If you want to renew, just go here, hit a few buttons, and you are good
for another year. http://www.poca.com/index.php/cl/rm

Subject: [DeTomaso] POCA and the ProvaMo Registry

>>>I've changed the subject (again) as we are not answering poor Tony's
original question!
(How many cars in the USA, I think...)

I assume that those of us who are not POCA members would not have access
to
the registry if it was run by POCA.

Fair question Tomas...

And I've been asked, what about the people that don't want just any old
POCA person to
have access?

I don't have any idea, or way to check, just how many of POCAs current
members are also
ProvaMo members. If there are 1,000 POCA current members, but there is
something like
2,800+ cars, and maybe 2,000+ ProvaMo.com 'members', then POCA is
actually a minority
participant in the ProvaMo registry.

There are several possible solutions, to this and EVERY other question I
have received
(directly), and these current questions are from list members, and have
yet to include PI
Board followers (that are not on this list) and ProvaMo members that are
not in either
group.

Any future possible action must take everybody's needs into account....

Perhaps there could be a POCA flag in the database which identifies a
POCA entry
which POCA members can access...

Lots to consider... and since this topic has come and gone several times
over the years
I'll need to find my notes next...

Chuck
