[DeTomaso] # of surviving cars

I'd just like to know the REAL number of cars produced.

The VIN's started at 1000, I'm told that 01,02 and 03 were crash tested.
so the earliest car should be 1004.

Then the push button cars were the first approx 300 cars, ending around 1300
or so
( somebody will correct the number because I know there is a car billed as
 "The Last Pushbutton"

Elvis had 1553 or something close to that.

I have #1660, built in June 71.

Mike D. has always said that serial numbers were shifted around and were not
in order

and we all know that the Pre - L and L models, dash changes,
bumper changes and ZF dash 1- vs dash 2 changes
spanned lots of serial numbers in no particular order.

The real number of GTS cars
GT3, GT4, GT5, GT5S, Targas ( I think the answer is 4)
and the later Aus. bult 9000 series cars or 200 or whatever.
Factory race cars ( w and w/o VIN numbers )

Seems to me that the best place to start is to know
how many there are supposed to be and then fill in the gaps.

Wrecked one, totalled ones, parts cars, etc.
