Rule of Thumb is, thread engagement should be a minimum of twice the 
diameter of the threaded part plus 2 threads. 
Isky and Crane both sell a cheap stud-boss cutter that can be used in a 
1/2" hand drill, but one can still bias the cut to one side while doing the 
boss trimming, and can overshoot the depth of cut, maybe leading to the varying 
thread depths and off-center angles on some rockers. Correcting all this 
back to good geometry can be done with shims, but its too bad the correction
