I think that this 72 hour thing shows how bone headed the people are that are running the movie production..........typical of a snot nose production manager (or less) running off to "throw money" at a problem.....

IF, they had their collective sh*t straight, they would realize that it could take a couple of weeks/months to try and find "collector cars" worthy of a good death.......or at least mockups....

If I was king, I'd get hold of Larry Stock, who has some fiberglass molds for sheet metal bits and pieces, find some Toyota MR2's or the new Capri's, or old RX7's, or basically any car that was made in quantities of gazillions, with no redeeming qualities, and put fiberglass bodies on them for any destruction sequences......

Certainly one would think that you could build 3 "fake" cars for a lot less than a bottom of the line rusted out but complete Pantera!

It would be interesting to hear if Dave got any takers!!!

Had a buddy that had a 67 Mustang convertible, that they loaded up with options...and he had rented other cars to movie productions in the past. The filming for Arnie's "Last Action Hero" was taking place and the movie co. wanted a convertible Mustang to fly off of a something or other..... This convertible was nothing special, as my friend had added all of the optional stuff to the fairly rusty car...... The movie company was offering something like $11K (back in the early 90's??) for what was basically a polished turd.....car was rusty, but ran.

SO, my buddies took ALL of the optional stuff off of the car, sold it to the movie co for $11K and ran! They then proceeded to sell all the optional stuff too!

In the end, the movie co. scrapped the Mustang idea and went with a Duster or some other lame model of a ho-hum car to do the shot...... Never heard what happened to the Mustang!
