[DeTomaso] sacrificial Panteras - :-(

Naw--if you look at the DVD frame by frame you can see "no Panteras were harmed in the making of this movie." (See below a couple of items I found while searching the ever-truthful internet...")

Chris

 Revealing:
In the aerial shot where the Pantera explodes on the highway,
you can see that it's a crude mock-up on some type of rolling trailer.
Also, it appears to only be moving at 30 or 40 mph, which is WAY slower
than the 160 mph speed indicated in the movie.

 Factual
error: Supposedly the Pantera was rigged to explode once it
reached 160 mph. There are two problems here. First, a stock Detomaso
Pantera could never reach 160, especially a smog-controlled "L" model
with the old bias-ply Arriva tires, which is what they used in the
movie. Second, the Dodge Polara police car that was tailing him closely
and matching his speed, most DEFINITELY would not be able to achieve
that speed.

I think Mike Drew had once told me it was a real honest to goodness Pantera. It sure looked like the real thing when I froze the video to watch the pieces fly off. I own it too, so I'll have
to pop it into the DVD player and step through the explosion frame by frame.

I own the Cannonball movie--it was that movie that ignited my love for Panteras (no pun intended)! The explosion is not a Pantera, it's odd-looking contraption that is being towed behind the police car in the overhead "explosion" shot.

That movie was way too low budget to waste a Pantera!
