Very likely the spindle is not damaged. As a precaution, buff it and replace
the bearings. Note that some replacement bearings do NOT come pre-greased;
they only have a protective rustproof coating that sort of looks like
grease. Hand greasing is simple and messy, taking NO tools beyond the palm
