I've always preferred to use highly flammable Hydrogen in my highly flammable Campys. The properties offset one another for safety. It's sort of like having a Diet Coke with your Snicker. No harm no foul.
YMMV

valve stem caps, threads and the stems themselves were not designed to be
pressure holding devices
It was my understanding that the centrifugal force of a tire spinning at
very high speeds would cause the valve stem to push inward and release air,
especially on a stock Pantera Campagnola rim where the valve stem points
directly to the center of the rim. This is why they came with metal caps that
sealed the stem. That's also why they need to be metal stems. This is the
one of those old Pantera factoids that make sense but who really knows!
