Be sure and leave room for expansion in the unpressurized tank.

you may have a resister between the sender and the temp gauge that is giving

you a low reading at the gauge.  Ford recommended this mod to reduce owners 
concerns about high temps at the gauge.

I don't see any value in idling the car unless after an extremely spirited 
drive.
