Not generally a good idea to change only the race on a used tapered 
bearing. There will have been some wear even with hardened steel, and you risk 
seizing the assembly and wrecking the pinion shaft which is REALLY expensive. 
The pinion too is not a good idea to change by itself, the integral pinion 
gear being matched to a ring gear as a set. Save yourself time & possible 
aggravation- the bearing is a std size and the set is less than $40- and change 
the bearing AND race as a set. 
And try to figure out why it slid out of position. If it spun before coming 
adrift, the recess in the case may have been thrashed out oversize like a 
rod with a spun bearing, and a weld/remachine of the diff case is in the 
cards. If so, I have a reconditioned dash-2 diff case.... Good luck- J Deryke
