Actually, they do surprisingly well.   They failed their initial crash 
tests (which, of course, is why they call them 'tests'), but after some 
redesigning of the cabin, they subsequently passed with flying colors.

I've seen some pretty amazingly crashed Panteras, and even though the front 
or the rear end is totally wiped out, the cabin usually remains intact.

Just don't throw one down the road upside down at 150 mph and then go 
cartwheeling through the desert.   That seems like asking a bit much of a 
40-year-old design (and yet Art still managed to be okay!)
