[DeTomaso] Paint

I believe the original paint on the Pantera is acrylic enamel and the 
modern paint is base coat clear coat.
If I am repainting the whole car should I stick with the original paint 
or go with the base coat clear coat?
If base coat clear coat is the choice is there a compatibility issue? 
(The painter says yes the supplier says no)
Has any one had any issues with paint before I commit?
I have a 74 Grabber blue Pantera that I have owned since 1977 so I know 
the paint is original but the new paint sample is a lighter blue.  I 
thought that the old paint would fade not get darker.
