[DeTomaso] Brake Conversion Options

Coleman can make smaller dia rotors and there are plenty of calipers out there to pick from.  From my limited understanding, you need heavy enough rotors to have enough thermal mass in the rotor to deal with the short term heat, and you need vented rotors and maybe some ducting to deal with long term heat.  If you call Coleman Racing and describe your use I'm sure they can recommend calipers and rotors for you.  Just try to get rotors with an 8 on 7 5/8 pattern so you can bolt them to the Wilwood hats, or you may need custom hats.

    But I don't intend to get in the business of selling calipers.  I bought 996 turbo calipers when I saw good deals to help launch the upgrade.  They show up regularly on ebay for anywhere between $700 and $1,500 a set, and I think a new set would be about $2,400.  I think they are exceptionally high quality, an excellent match to a Pantera, available, and there are lots of pad options.  But they also require 17 inch front wheels.  At some point you have make a decision and run with it.  These calipers seemed to be a good point to make the decision.

Ken Green has a Brembo conversion that uses Brembo calipers from a Porsche
911 Turbo  (996) They are 4 piston and some of the vendors charge between
$7000 and $8000 for a full conversion. The Brembo's are considered supierior
( over Willwood) if you use your car for street and track because the have
dust seals and are made to hold up to extended use by consumers (vs
mechanics or racers with pit crews) The Willwood or other racing calipers
are supposed to be serviced much more often due to the lack of dust sheilds
and seals. You can get  Calipers and custom machined billet mounting
adapters from Ken and he recomends Coleman rotors and Willwood hats. You can
get the pricing from Ken but I can tell you it's a deal you can't beat and
you can't argue with Brembo or Porsche. I believe most people go with
Willwood because new Brembo's cost a fortune. I bought four calipers from
him and all they needed was a new coat of "Clear coat"" I will send you
pictures if you would like to see how well they came out. I can also make a
set of new decals for the calipers for you if you buy calipers from Ken.
They come with Porsche logos and I can make decals that have the Brembo logo
or , Detomaso, or Pantera. They are heat resistant and after you put them
one you spray a few coats of heat resistant clear coat. I will make them for
you for free if you cover the cost of the heat resistant decal paper ( a few
bucks) You can do front and rear , he has mounting brackets for both. He is
also working on a rear brake conversion that has a new custom billet carrier
that uses new better bearings, makes changing the rotors simple and converts
from half shafts to CV joints.  I bought the calipers from him but I haven't
done the conversion yet.

Contact Ken if you are interested or if you want pictures of the refinished
calipers with the Brembo decals let me know and I will send you pictures.
