[DeTomaso] The Beast running Laguna Seca this weekend

I remeber that day! That was my first time on a racetrack.
I had a bone stock 72, also with no brakes and worn out shocks. I kept getting lapped my Dennis Quella going into the corkscrew.

Sheeit, if you didn't have bad luck you would have no luck at all...;-) You still need to get your ass back to SS and kick some ass.....Yea, the last time we ran as a club at Laguna Seca was at the invitation of the FOC and they were a different group then what we were used to down here.

When I was on the course I passed a 99 point old Ferrari Boxer on turn 9 <?> at the bottom of the cork screw and got an immediate black flag...of course what the F-driver didn't know was the reason I passed him was because my old original stock unventilated brakes had faded so much that when we approached turn 1 I could not slow down enough to stay behind him so I sling shoted around him and immediately got all kinds of black flags...made my final lap and came into the pitts...race director came rushing up to me and gave me this loooong lecture about NOT passing on turn 9....Now the driver of the Boxer was very cool....he came up to me when he finished his run and said,

"Outstanding Pass dude".......and apologised for being so slow! hehe

I was afraid to tell him I had brake fade and could not slow down.

If you can't afford a paint job why don't just you put a cheap ass "Rat Rod" primer paint job on the Beast? Actually your plumbing and engine Bay looks good.....but you know what they say about 'perception'.

Same shit as Silver State, they didn't like the look of the car and gave me an undercover in-car tech (supposed to be an instructor but I found out it was a set-up due to some rich-fuck in a Marinello complaining about the car's appearance). He booted me for the steering column vibrating too much (just uphill on left turns) and the battery was dying, due to a loose fanbelt I fixed in 2 minutes.
I got about thirty laps over the weekend but need many more.
I may return in a rent a car for Speed Ventures, just to learn the track.

While at the Montery Historics a couple of weeks ago a Trans Am vintage driver I've run with at Willow Springs (actually the fellow who ran over my deck lid when it blew off) invited me to this "Uncorked" event at Laguna this weekend ( http://www.clubautosport.net/uncorked )
The organizers were able to obtain an exemption to the decible limit so it seemed like a great oppurtunity to run The Beast.
I've never run Laguna and was able to get just 1 1/2 laps on a simulator before my run group was called.
It turned out they put me in the Race Prepped group which consists mainly of NASCAR Winston Cup racers, from the past fifteen or so years.
After spending my first session pointing by former Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt, Michael Waltrip, etc cars I got familiar enough with the track, and got The Beast dialed in, to be able to keep up with at least a few of them, pass a couple and have a heck of alot of fun.
They had various run groups all day culminating in a motorcycle race wherein a 15 year old girl phenom blew away the field!
We have three sessions tomorrow, so I'm looking to finally putting The Beast through it's paces in a completly challenging enviornment.
I believe admission is free, so if you are in the area I'd recommend swinging by. The cars and the competition is on a level almost par with the Monterey HIstorics, the pits are full of diverse and historic cars and bikes, and it's a total blast!
