It's not a 'smaller' thing, I don't believe.   I think it's due to the 
inversion of the gearbox in the GT40/Mangusta application.

Can you describe how a Dash-1 is smaller than a Dash-2?   I can't picture 
it, because the top (bottom in a Pantera) cover, and the back cover, and the 
sideplates all interchange, and the overall length is the same.   So can you 
elaborate as to where/how it's smaller?   I'm very curious about it since 
I'd never heard of it before.
