[DeTomaso] Clutch woes in Asa's garage

It sounds like your clutch release lever may not be aligned perfectly. If it
is off by a spline or two you will lose part of the mechanical advantage of
the lever . If I understand it correctly the lever should be at as close to
a 90 degree angle to the slave shaft when the shaft and piston are pushed
all the way into the slave cylinder. If the angle is off by a few degrees
the shaft is not being pushed straight in. That's the reason behind starting
your free play adjustment with the piston seated all the way into the slave
cylinder and checking the angle of the clutch release lever relative to the
slave cylinder shaft. There is certainly a better then average chance that I
am wrong since I am on the "learn as you go " program , dealing with a
problem similar to Asa Jay's myself. I am currently waiting for my new slave
cylinder , stock master cylinder and braided stainless line to arrive from
Wilkinson.
If I am incorrect in my understanding of the positioning requirements
necessary to correctly adjust the clutch free play someone please chime in.
I would like to be corrected before my parts get here so I can prepare by
getting my clutch release lever in the correct position before I put
everything back together.
