[DeTomaso] Tailight Lenses

Many years ago, back in my Corvette days, we often used red magic markers to
recoat the taillight lenses if they became cracked or discolored.

YMMV

BTW If you do opt for new lenses search around as they are an Alfa 2000
part. Mr Fiat was selling them for $80 ea. a while back, I see they are
currently $113 ea.

FWIW Mr. Fiat also sells the reproduction GP4 lenses for a bargain price of
$128 a pair if originality is not important and you have the GP4 tailight
buckets. Larry Finch can supply high quality complete GP4 units too.

correct color dye on the right portion of the lens. Dying an overall
smoke/tint may be relatively easy.

(they also do red and smoked colors too). You have to search but you can
find it here in the US (my can label is all Japanese). I found it works
pretty well, you just have to do multiple very lights coats so that you
don't get too much spray flowing into the valleys of the ribbed lens
reflector which then shows up as dark lines from the exterior.

bunch of numbers. They are euro type tri color lenses not GR4. Here is a
link to a picture I posted on the PI forum

micro-thin reflective coation on the inside of the buckets. Your question
sort of implies some type of paint on the lens, which I didn't think had
been used by the factory. Are these stock U.S, stock Euro or GR-4 lenses?

plastic dyes quite easily. I run Lexan front quarter windows, and a shallow
pan of 'RIT'-brand dye dissolved in warm water permanently dyes the clear
plastic to match the shading on windshields & side windows. So I'll bet the
right color of RIT dye in warm water will also work on your lenses. The
color-impregnation happens quite fast so you can just hold the lens at the
right depth for a minute, rinse and repeat as necessary. Good luck- J Deryke
