[DeTomaso] Tailight Lenses

IMHO dying the lens colors will be a challenge, especially keeping the correct color dye on the right portion of the lens. Dying an overall smoke/tint may be relatively easy.

What you need is a product from Dia-Wyte in Japan, called Vans Lens Orange (they also do red and smoked colors too). You have to search but you can find it here in the US (my can label is all Japanese). I found it works pretty well, you just have to do multiple very lights coats so that you don't get too much spray flowing into the valleys of the ribbed lens reflector which then shows up as dark lines from the exterior.

Here's one place selling it, but I seem to recall paying less than $20 all in, although that was some time ago now.

I run Lexan front quarter windows, and a shallow pan of 'RIT'-brand dye dissolved in warm water permanently dyes the clear plastic to match the shading on windshields & side windows. So I'll bet the right color of RIT dye in warm water will also work on your lenses. The color-impregnation happens quite fast so you can just hold the lens at the right depth for a minute, rinse and repeat as necessary. Good luck- J Deryke
