Damn y'all pick out words for no apparent reason, nobody said or inferred
that Chuck or anybody else wasn''t serious, it's just a word, if anything it
was meant to imply that the name actually described the contents, sorta like
when I say NutJob when I think of Nancy Pelosi. , or Socialist Empty Suit
when I say Obama,. Trust me when I say that if I wanted to slam somebody it
would be easy to understand. I think Chuck does a great job, my ONLY
complaint is the whole sign up process and sign in to see it, I'm too lazy
and I know for a fact that visitors are 99% less likely to learn about a
site if they have to go through a bunch of stuff to get access, now having
said that, perhaps not having those 99% around isn't such a bad thing. It's
Chuck's site and he does a good job and I appreciate it because I know what
goes into maintaining websites.

Michael,

Don't worry, I knew what you meant by 'serious'. Ken's comment didn't occur to me
as a slight to you or me...even after I read it.

Anyway, yea, the login requirement has generated some feedback, and I've addresses some
early issues, but it is necessary, and there are obvious benefits, like supporting
ownership privacy, and filtering out certain people. It has also helped automate the
registry update process.

For a filtering example, when the "DeTomaso For Sale" page was outside the main site,
sellers were getting a lot of "looky-loo" type traffic... and it was suggested to
me to move that resource "in doors", so I did. Apparently some traffic was also those web
crawlers that surf for e-mail addresses, to then sell to hackers & crackers. To verify
the site "quality or service" went up, I checked the before and after traffic
counts, ran a seller survey, and the >number< of "serious inquiries" went up slightly,
(I attributed to the sites ever increasing traffic) and the "not serious" inquiries went
way down, such that the vast majority (89-93% was the sample result) of contacts a given
seller receives was from "serious" buyers. Sellers then can spend their time on
closing/selling their DeTomaso, versus weeding out the 'chaff'.

As for domain names, I have actually bought (and continue to pay for) numerous variations.
This does drive up my monthly cost quite a bit. The accurate ones go right to the same
site, others don't go anywhere, or hit "parking places", but it keeps scammers from
mis-directing traffic for nefarious reasons.

Anyway...

Chuck
(The Registry Guy)
