[DeTomaso] Thermostat test

I'm lucky enough to be at an altitude I can boil water and test a
thermostat.

The one that was installed in my engine is a Robertshaw style. 180
degree. I pulled the thermostat housing/tube off and examined the
stat. It looked okay. No apparent gasket gunk, sealant, etc. on it in
any crucial locations. It was correctly oriented toward the radiator
(flow wise). I removed the stat.

I took it to the kitchen where Shelley had a pot of water waiting. In
goes the stat and we turn up the heat. As the thermometer approached
180, the stat began to open. At 200 it was wide open. So it would
appear my thermostat was not the cause of the overheat.

A brand new NAPA 190 stat was tested and it began opening as it
approached 200 and didn't appear to finish (at least that we could tell)
until after the water was boiling.

So now I rapidly approach discouragement. I will install NO thermostat
and run the engine to see what happens. I'm expecting I will have no
flow. Bad water pump? I'll check on that before I put it all together
again.
