  That was an incorrect statement.  The purpose of the thermostat is to slow flow and allow the block to reach optimal temperature. IMHO, many Pantera owners are running thermostats that keep the block too cool increasing cylinder bore wear and compromising power by blunting the oil temp.  I believe that studies show optimum power to occur when oil is around 220 degrees.  I am certain that this varies from engine to engine and oil to oil; however, it is in the ballpark.  I suggest that running 160 or even 180 degree thermostats is to cool.  Highway driving with ample coolant and airflow will draw fluid temps down to that level.
