General opinions I trust indicate the better approach, if you must do
anything beyond a two-bolt main, is to drill and fit locating pins instead
of two extra bolts. Guys I know, that build race engines all day, don't
even see a benefit from main girdles.
I just install ARP stud kits and use 2-bolt mains. Never seen evidence of
any distress in the mains.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but isn't every Cleveland block potentially a 4
bolt main block by simply drilling and tapping 2 more holes per main? i.e.
there's nothing special about a 4 bolt main block other than the mains and
depending on who you listen too it's questionable whether the 4 bolt offer
any advantage over a 2 bolt for a street engine as the Cleveland has other
weaknesses and primary points of failure.
Personally, I would not touch an already 30 over block without an
accompanying sonic test certificate.
