Won't jacking up the rear counteract the prevention of air pockets in
the engine itself?

In all my years of trubleshooting, I have found it is the simplest
things that go wrong. If it was so complicated we would never figure it
out. I'm going with the air in system or thermostat. With a big lean
toward air. Jack up your rear and fill it over and over. Bill 1362

when it was all new, but I checked them later, and they weren't coming
on. I didn't spend the time to troubleshoot it. I discovered the problem
right before BBORR when I dropped the valve.
