Thanks, that's interesting!
But you fixed your problem with two different solutions. So, which one did
the trick?
(ie, did you test without the extra groundstrap?)

starter be wired differently then the standard installation as shown in the
wiring diagrams. Normally the hot lead goes from the battery to the fire
wall mounted solenoid and then from the solenoid to the starter. many people
then run a small jumper from the small pole on the starter solenoid to the
large pole where the 12 volt line from the fire wall solenoid goes to.  The
people from DR say you must run the 12 volt line from the HOT SIDE of the
fire wall solenoid directly to the large pole on the starter solenoid. In
other words you have a constant hot 12 volts at the starter at all times.
You then run a small wire (that they include) from the switched side of the
fire wall sloenoid to the small pole on the starter solenoid that triggers
the starter when you turn the ignition switch. I was amazed by the
difference. My starter rips now when I start it and at full operating
temperature there is virtually no difference in the starting power.  If you
have been having this problem I strongly recommend you try their starter and
this wiring plan. ( I also ran a new ground strap from one of the starter
studs to the chassis)
