[DeTomaso] Ebay Pantera: Is A SCAM!!!!

Often I can direct them (on line) to a source (on line).
For example, www.mobile.de has more than ½ dozen cars not currently in the Registry. One
only needs to contact the seller, obtain the VIN and send the photos.

>> And the irony here is you are now advocating the exact thing that you are suposed to be
protecting with your login process. Contacting sellers with absolutely no real intention
to purchase, but simply as a means to get information and VIN.....isn't that what most
scammers do??

I disagree.

I didn’t say to pretend to be a buyer. When I contact a seller, I fully disclose who I
am, what I intend, and what I offer.

And scammers are trying to get you to send them money. I am not suggesting this either.

And out of concern and respect for the seller

I am quite interested in then providing a free add for that seller on the ProvaMo website

which as you all know (right?) host the largest collection of DeTomaso cars for sale
world-wide. Yea, tooting my own horn maybe a little, but the point is there is a LOT of
traffic to ProvaMo.com by potential buyers, so the seller gets broader exposure for their
car and at no expense.

>> No matter what the general feeling about login to the registry, (which I too find a
PITA, especially when I have to login multiple times) I feel the 'Cars For Sale' page
should be outside the members zone and free access, otherwise you are predominantly
restricted to only members seeing the ads, and they for the most part have Pantera's
already.

The For Sale page is available to anyone that logs in, one does not have to add a car for
access to that.

They do need to create a login (only the first time), which itself reduces Looky-loos from
bothering sellers.

We all know about carfax, and one needs the VIN to check a car, so sellers are (or should
be) familiar and comfortable disclosing the VIN, and they don’t have to pay anything, like
they do at carfax.

>> 1. I don't think you can compare the registry with Carfax, you offer no means to verify
a cars history and any available information is based on the honesty system for
disclosure.

I was not trying to really compare to carfax, just point out that a seller should feel
comfortable disclosing the VIN.

As carfax does not even support our cars, carfax does not even apply here.

If you consider not having the resource, compared to having the Registry as a resource,

naturally I think there is value, which is why I spend a significant amount of my time

on the resource.

Often for Pantera's even a particular cars color history is vague.
>> 2. IMHO Carfax isn't worth the paper it's written on...... There was a pending Class
Action against Carfax as not all states have open reporting, so Carfax does not have
access to all records. My old 2001 Dodge Ram truck came out of CA and had a clean Carfax.
When I called my insurance company after the purchase they told me it had been subject to
three previous significant claims.
