[DeTomaso] Check out my photos on Facebook

Most social networking sites now have the ability (if you let them) to  
scan your email address book or other social networking accounts for  
"friends" and send them an invitation.

This is most likely what happened in this case, and as Michael points  
out, he check a "wrong box" and ended up with that behavior.

I've had half a dozen invites to join... I don't.  I have enough  
maintaining my own web sites without the need to spend the rest of my  
day trying to update my social status.
