[DeTomaso] NPC - Clear Coat

I've been fixing some rust on my old BMW and I'm just about ready to put 
on the clear coat.  Do I just put on the multiple layers of clear coat 
before wet sanding and polishing or should I do the wet 
sanding/polishing between layers.  I'm a cheap bastard, so I'm rattle 
canning it and I'm not looking for show car perfection, just something 
that looks reasonably nice.
