[DeTomaso] The Fake Pantera Lives????

My '74 #07195 is like Asa's. No Warranty Plate surrounding the VIN. It does
have the felt cut out to display the VIN but no evidence of the Warranty
Plate ever having been installed. It does have the plastic Body Service
Number tag pop riveted over the felt. I also bought my car from the original
owner with documentation of everything done to the car and feel its original
without the metal plate.

If you look at page 6 and 7 of the Ford parts catalog it calls the plate a
Warranty Plate. It states on page 6 the 1971/72 cars before Body Service
Number 4269 the Warranty Plate was located on the left door latch pillar. On
page 7 it states 1972 from Body Service Number 4269 the Warranty Plate is
located in the front baggage compartment above the brake booster assembly.

Page 8 covers the Body Service Plate. 

There is an illustration of each type plate.

The Ford parts catalog does call the felt "carpet".

Law enforcement and DMV's consider the tag visible through the windshield to
be the primary VIN. The VIN visible through the windshield became a federal
requirement in the late 60's IIRC.
