Yours is a 1971-spec car, isn't it? Flat bumpers, flat decklid? I can't
remember exactly.
In any case, the shield around the gas tank is a half-high version, that
wraps around the back side of the tank. So besides the fasteners in the
engine bay area (it's riveted in several places), you also have to pull the
wheel and remove the rivets holding it to tabs on the quarter panel/rocker
panel.
Now is a good time to update the system and install a full-height shield,
as used on the L-models etc. The short shield allows dirt to get thrown
over the tank by the spinning tire, which then turns to mud when wet, and rusts
the quarter panel from the inside out.
