If anyone is planning on replacing their stock Detomaso clutch master
cylinder for the later model Pantera with the clutch lever reduction linkage
, this will be of interest to you. I found several flaws in the new "
Detomaso" Clutch master cylinders being sold by one of the Pantera vendors.
The casting was of an inferior quality, the push rod length was off (
several MM to long, the clevis was to narrow to fit over the pedal linkage,
and the dimensions of the reservoir were off. I purchased a power bleeder
that needs to screw on to the reservoir (like the cap) in order to
pressurize the system. The Power bleeder cap doesn't fit the reservoir
properly. It appears to be off by a few MM. When you screw the cap on it
goes a few threads and the pops so if never tightens to the point where you
can get a seal. luckily I had the reservoir from my original clutch master
cylinder. When I used the original reservoir the bleeder cap fit perfectly
and I was able to pressurize it to 20 psi without a leak. So to make my
"New" master cylinder work , I needed to use the Push rod, the clevis, the
reservoir and the reservoir cap from the original master cylinder . There is
no question that the quality of the Clutch master cylinders that are being
sold by this vendor as "Made in Italy" are very poor quality and not built
to the correct tolerances. I have been told and I tend to believe they are
being made in China. I purchased two of these master cylinders in a 1 month
period and the defects were the same in both so this does not appear to be
an isolated incident. I would seriously consider looking into a CNC clutch
master cylinder or plan on reusing the parts from your old master cylinder
along with the body and new piston and o rings from the new master cylinder.
