[DeTomaso] zf 5th gear

This may sound irrelevant , but check to see if the rear firewall shifter boot is grabbing the shift rod to tightly. Years ago I had a fifth gear jump out problem that ended up being a rear firewall shift boot not letting go of the shaft and pulling the shifter back out of gear as you drove down the road ( pretty quickly too). It seems that the replacement boots have a much higher "lip" tension than the original ones............just a thought.

Well I got the trans back in the pantera and 5th gear pops out still.. I did find a worn thrust washer under 5th gear that let 5th gear move up and down the shaft. I replace this and looked at gear-teeth look fine, sincro looks good (shifts into gear very smooth), collar looks good. BUT I think this is the problem. any ideals??
