Not if you install a good o-ring on a straight-thread plug before winding
it in. A banjo fitting uses crush-washers between the tank fitting and the
banjo so it seals dependably. But a tapered thread on a plug seals with no
extra parts to fracture down the road, or hang outside to be ripped off in a
crash such as has happened several times- the latest to Art Stevens in '08.
MAJOR fires result. In any case, a banjo fitting is unnecessary. I'm finishing
up a how-to article for adding a cheap, dependable electric IN-TANK fuel
pump to Panteras in the July newsletter; the installation will accomodate
either EFI or carbureted engines, for only a few dollars. Can you wait a bit
while I finish it up? Cheers- J Deryke
