Why is it no one ever says, Lets stop our Government from sending Billions $$$ to foreign aid and use that money here in the good ole USA!  I feel bad for those Countries but we need to take CARE of our own FIRST!
OK, flame suit on

Again, as a former health care consultant I can assure you that many things
can be made better. But, also as a former health care consultant, I know
that A HUGE chunk (last I heard, vast majority) of health care dollars are
going to treat preventable diseases like, lung disease due to smoking,
obesity related diseases (i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure, heart
disease), drug addiction.

I don't want my tax dollars going to someone who cannot resist supersizing
every meal or smoking two packs a day or engage in other dangerous or self
destructive behavior.

People keep thinking that government healthcare is going to be free, or even
cheaper.  It will be more expensive and worse....much worse.  I guarantee
that in twenty years you will be saying "what the hell, I'm paying 2/3 of my
income to taxes and I my mom cannot even get dialysis.  I don't understand
why I need to work until 75 to pay for worse healthcare, worse retirement,
etc."

Where will "they" stop.  Doesn't everyone need adequate (not gold-plated)
housing or adequate (not gold plated) cable t.v. or adequate (not
gold-plated) transportation or (not gold-plated) job benefits, adequate (not
gold-plated) heating, adequate (not gold plated) clothing?  Who decides what
is adequate and (not gold plated) anything.  Just wait, every "want" will
become a "need" and every "need" will become a "right" because that it what
Europe (insert country of choice here) has.

I am enjoying the discussion but we probably need to take this off line.

Lynn

"What would be even more fair is that everyone work
hard, give an honest days work for an honest days pay, be fiscally
responsible,
prepare for their own retirement, take care of their own and quit
blaming
others,"

I totally agree with you.  The only thing the gov't does for me is take
1/3 of my income every year. By the time I retire Medicare will be
broke and Social Security will be "means tested"-- in otherwords a
welfare system-- so I will never get a penny from it. So I am planning
for my own retirement.

But to say health care is the same as everything else in life is not
honest or realistic.
Not everyone deserve to drive a Cadillac or BMW, but everyone deserves
adequate (not gold-plated) health care.

How about we get the gov to pay for everything to make everything
fair......now
what was that called?????? Oh yea communism.  Maybe the ORR circuit
should apply
to the gov for funds so that everyone got the same amount of money to
pay for
their HOBBY.  That would be fair.....oh wait then we would have to do
something
about driver's skill.  What to do... what to do....  I've got it...Gov
supplied
cruise and satellite speed controls....yea that would be fair.
Everybody could
just cross the finish line together.

I've got a radical idea.  What would be even more fair is that everyone
work
hard, give an honest days work for an honest days pay, be fiscally
responsible,
prepare for their own retirement, take care of their own and quit
blaming
others, "the man", the system, the gov, the dems, the repubs or
anything or
anyone else in an attempt to shift responsibility from themselves.
Some call it
personal responsibility.

Just a thought on what my idea of fair is

Lynn, doing everything I can to retire at 52

If everyone has their medical care paid for with tax dollars, it would
be fair
It's not fair is some people retire at 52 and some at 67

I don't hate anyone-- I just don't think it's fair and don't want to
pay for it with my tax bailout dollars.

Don't hate the playa, hate the game.  He signed up for a plan that
allowed him to do that - change the rules...

That's my understanding, too.  No company can survive paying for full
health care for its workers and its retirees, especially when they
"retire" after 30 years.  A friend's brother retired at 52 with full
health care for the rest of his life. How can they afford that? They
can't, as we have now learned.

Why should he be able to retire at 52 when the rest of us have to work
until 65 or 67?

i would prefer to buy a car (or anything, for that matter), from a
company whose
ceo's earn only 30 times what their employees make, instead of 300
times.  ya, i
am a pinko commie, remember?  so, while i happen to think, cars sold in
america
manufactured by companies who are based in america, do not compare, for
the most
part, to cars made by non-usa owned companies, i likely still wouldn't
w
anna buy
them even if i thought they weren't bad deals.

but, what is sinking the american auto industry isn't the fact that
their ceo's
are overpaid, or even the fact that their product isn't as good.  (way
too many
hillbillies in this country that will buy anything as long as it's made
in the
usa.)  ;~)  it's the fact that the commie pinko auto trade unions were
able to
demand and
get healthcare & retirement packages for themselves.  the
rest of the
commie pinko industrialized world, (ya know:  france, germany, japan,
canada -
pinko places like that?), well those pinko places all have universal
health
care, so the companies there don't have to pick up the tab...  if the
usa had
commie pinko single-payer healthcare, gm & chrysler would still be
stong &
turning a profit...  making that dreck...  :>)
