FWIW, my Sciroccos came with solid rotors.   It was possible to induce 
noticeable brake fade with repeated hard stops.   Switching to same-thickness 
vented rotors (from later VWs) with no other changes completely cured the 
problem.

I challenge you to find a single non-crapbox production car today that 
doesn't have vented rotors, at least in the front.   Solid rotors are cheaper to 
manufacture, so if they worked at all, the OEMs would use them.

They don't, so they don't....
