Richard:
I went with the 315's for a number of reasons.
When I ordered them yesterday, they had both 315 and 335 available, and the
big shocker was that the 335's are only $10 more per tire! With the Pirelli
335's, I have about 1/8" or less of clearance to my Mind Train muffles, and
wanted a little more space there. I didn't want to take the chance that the
Khumos were just a little broader at the shoulder and contact the mufflers.
Plus, I've heard that bringing the size down will balance the handling.
All of you thinking about Goodgear, BF Goodgrinch or Dunlop, these Khumies,
245/45ZR17 front, 315/35ZR17 rear. will be just over $1000 mounted and
balanced. Much better than I had planned.
We'll see how they work out. They get mounted this weekend, then I'll take
them for a "spin".
ALL:
FOR SALE: 4 Pirelli P-Zero Asymetrico (yellows). 2 245/45 17's lots of
tread left, 2 335/35 17's, getting into the wear markers on both, more near
the center and the edges. Make me an offer.

Mike,
I was just browsing the TireRack and noticed that they now list the Ecsta XS
in the 335/35/ZR17 size listed as "New". I don't think they did a few weeks
ago. Did you decide on the 315s because that's what was available or because
they would work better?

Thanks all for your input on the tires. I'll be going with a set of the
Khumo Ecsta XS. Lots of good reviews, and the price is great. We'll see
how I like them for the trip to Reno.

OK, so it looks like I'm going to have to get new tires before the drive to
Reno. I've narrowed it down to three choices that are both available and
that I can (choke) afford. The configuration I'm going with is 245/40ZR17
front / 315/35ZR17 rear.
Dunlop Sport 8000
BF Goodrich G-Force R1
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS D3
I'm doing almost exclusively street driving. I have Pirelli P-Zero
Asymetricos now, but can't afford the $500 each for the rears, and want to
step down from the 335 rear tires. My Pirellis on the front are fine, but
the rears are past the wear markers (the previous owner either had them
shaved or spun off a few miles).
Your thoughts on these choices are welcomed. They are all within about $100
of each other mounted and balanced.
Thanks in advance.
