[DeTomaso] name that relay

Thanks guys,

Yes, the stereo thought is a good one. I kept wondering why the device with all the wires going to it looked so fresh...versus the other relays under the dash that looked much older, i.e. dusty. And one of the last things that the previous owner did was put in that stereo, speakers and stupid subwoofer. Makes sense but I will try to find time this weekend to start checking all of that out.

Thanks again and best regards,

Brian

The fat Green and black wire on item "B" looks like the feed (hot) wire for the window motors, It looks like someone used them as a source to tap into a 12 volt line with high amp capacity. Those wires are fused to carry enough amps to melt every wire in your harness especially since they seem to be tapped on the "hot side" ( before the fuse) You definitely need to insulate them at the very least. Your idea of tracing the "new connection " is a good one. What ever you find should be disconnected and if it is something still needed be rewired with it's own fused link. The way it appears it is taxing a circuit that already is set up for the maximum draw of anything in your pantera with the exception of the starter. Based on the gauge of the wire used (the red one) it is something that draws allot of amps and poses a substantial danger if it were to be shorted out. This could happen very easily with the terminal ends exposed the way they are. This is
an item that needs your immediate attention. I wouldn't even drive that car with those terminals exposed the way they are.

Thanks Boyd...Thanks Mike,

Guess I will try to trace down the mystery relay wiring...see where it goes.

Thanks again,
Brian

P.S. The thing labelled "B" in the photo looks very, very scary to me. It's not a De Tomaso part; it's something that somebody just butchered in there. Bare, naked terminals, probably with 12V coursing through them, yikes!

Your car had a crazy stereo setup in it at one point; this is probably related to that. If it needs to stay, it needs to be thoroughly insulated with electrical tape. If it's no longer being used, it needs to go!

Mike
